Wilton is a very well-known company that produces much of the best silicone bakeware and cookware products available on the markets right now. They basically began to silicone “revolution,” introducing the colorful and fun cake pans and muffin tins to the baking world.

The Wilton company website contains a page with a list of frequently asked questions and answers about the safe use of silicone bakeware. With so many people worried about the safety of silicone, Wilton answers many of the most basic questions that people are asking.

One basic question that is all over the internet is simply “is it safe?” Wilton explains that their silicone bakeware products are made of food grade silicone, the kind that is made from FDA approved synthetic rubber.

Another frequently asked question concerns the odors and flavors that are often said to be released when baking with silicone. Wilton answers that if used correctly (i.e. spraying with cooking spray to ensure a non-stick coating and not placing in an oven set to too high of a temperature,) Wilton silicone bakeware will not leave behind any unusual odor or flavor that will seep into your baked goods.

There are also a few questions about the different temperatures that the silicone bakeware can be placed in. Wilton explains that it can withstand an oven temperature of up to 500°F without melting. Wilton also says that it is safe in the heat of a microwave or toaster oven. According to Wilton, silicone can also withstand temperatures as cold as a freezer, so the silicone bakeware can also be used for methods other than baking (ice creams, ice, etc.)

Here is a link to the FAQ page on Wilton’s website. I found it very helpful.
