I have recently written a few posts about the good and bad effects of silicone bakeware. Today, I would like to offer a few tips on how to choose the best silicone bakeware, should you choose to bake with it.
First, be aware of the quality of the silicone in the product. An FDA seal of approval must be attached to the product. This ensures that the product will live up to what it is expected of. It will endure high temperatures and provide easy cleanup.
Second, you must be willing to spend a little extra money when purchasing your silicone product. Less expensive silicone bakeware contains plastic fillers and therefore, will not do well in very hot or very cold temperatures and may effect the overall taste of your product.
Third, when buying your products, check the label that verifies the temperature limits of the bakeware. While most silicone products can withstand temperatures up to 475°F, cheaper products will crack and burn easily when transfered from a hot oven to a cold freezer too quickly.
Last, look for the most sturdy products you can find. You will most likely always have to use a cookie sheet to balance your silicone product, but the sturdier the silicone, the better tasting your cupcakes and brownies will taste!
These tips will help you not only while choosing the best silicone bakeware, but also with your final product. Use these tips when baking with silicone, and you’ll surely end up with tasty, perfectly baked goods.
